At the initiative of Turkmenistan and co-sponsored by 86 countries, the resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust" was adopted at the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This was another step in Turkmenistan's consistent efforts to promote the culture of peaceful and trusting dialogue in the international community. Like the previous resolutions of the UN General Assembly proclaiming 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust and 2023 as the Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, Turkmenistan's new initiative aims to develop the Global Security Strategy based on the principles of the UN Charter and universally recognized norms of international law, taking into account current realities and global development trends.
The proposal to discuss the possibilities of developing such a strategy is contained in Turkmenistan's Priority Positions at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. In this document, emphasizing the significance of the resolution of the UN General Assembly adopted on July 28, 2022, proclaiming Central Asia a zone of peace, trust, and cooperation, it was stated that Turkmenistan will continue to work on submitting to the UN General Assembly a proposal to declare 2025 the "Year of Peace and Trust"
Based on the adopted resolution of the UN General Assembly, the country plans a series of measures for its practical implementation at the national and international levels. During the Cabinet of Ministers meeting, proposals were made to establish an organizational commission at the government level and consider relevant issues at its meetings, as well as to carry out this work at the international level, and to hold meetings with the participation of the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
The adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust" as a platform for joint action is aimed at contributing to the peaceful settlement of emerging conflicts by peaceful, political and diplomatic methods and means, strengthening trust among states.
As noted by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting, the adoption of this document is a clear evidence of the international recognition of the efforts of the Motherland in ensuring universal peace and sustainable development, enhancing mutually beneficial, friendly and fraternal relations, and strengthening trust among the states of the world. Congratulating all Turkmenistan citizens on this significant event, the head of state emphasized that systematic work in this direction would be continued in the future.
