According to established tradition, every year on the occasion of the Day of Culture and Art Workers of Turkmenistan, the creative team of the National Music and Drama Theatre named after Magtymguly stages an opera. As you know, this year coincides with a significant date of global significance - the 300th anniversary of «Magtymguly Fragi», so an opera dedicated to the greatest poet and philosopher was logically predetermined. And lovers of opera vocals were eagerly awaiting it.
The long-awaited opera «Magtymguly» took place. It was staged in full accordance with the classical genre, and featured unsurpassed music by Yuliy Meitus to a libretto by Berdi Kerbabayev and Alty Garlyyev. The conductor and choirmaster was People's Artist of Turkmenistan, Associate Professor of the Turkmen National Conservatory named after M. Kulyyeva Kurban Babayev. Directed by Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan Aynazar Batyrov.
The main roles – «Magtymguly» in his youth and in his mature years – were performed by Begench Moshyyev and Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan Yagmyr Gurbannazarov. The opera takes place in actions taken from the poet’s biography - his studies at the Shirgazi madrasah, the story with the Khiva Khan, the meeting with Menli, Magtymguly’s call to all Turkmen tribes to unite to repel the enemy army. These facts are known to every Turkmenistan, but presented by the stage masters, they were perceived with great interest by the audience in the hall.
Music of Meitus, the beautiful voices of the performers, the stunning scenography of Mekan Annamyradov - everything contributes to the fact that the opera can rightfully be called one of the best in our country. The audience applauded every scene, admiring the good taste of the opera’s creators, who thought through every detail. You could feel the love for «Magtymguly» from everyone who took part in the opera - from soloists to costume designers.
The finale of the opera about autocracy in the country, which determines peace and creation, filled the hearts of listeners with proud feelings of patriotism.
