The Innovation Information Center of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, together with the UNICEF office in Turkmenistan, on January 8-12, 2024, conducted “Training on the use of text-to-speech technology on computers and smartphones for educational purposes” for people with visual impairments. As part of this training, participants learned to use a program to convert text to speech in Turkmen and Russian on computers and smartphones.
This new software, developed by UNICEF, is especially useful for residents of Turkmenistan with visual impairments, allowing them to read digital text and use it in their lives. This innovative initiative is a testament to the country's commitment to expanding access to educational opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.
With the daily development of technology and the emergence of new innovations, the demands of the times are changing. The training participants were introduced to devices designed for people with low vision: a scanner (ORCAM glasses) and a keyboard (Braillesense Polaris). Using these devices, workshop participants learned how to improve their skills in using websites and reading e-books.
