The Secretary-General highly praised Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality, emphasizing that our country's foreign policy serves as a successful example in ensuring peace and stability.
The UN Secretary-General expressed gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for its efforts to eradicate statelessness and consistent steps taken in this direction.
The sides exchanged views on the development of cooperation between the UN and Turkmenistan, as well as on issues of regional peace and security, including Afghanistan. In this regard, the regular assistance and support provided to the Afghan people were highly appreciated, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.
The successful visit of the UN Secretary General to Turkmenistan in July and the results of his meetings with the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov were noted. The UN Head expressed gratitude for the high organizational level of the visit and hospitality.
During the meeting, Meredov assured readiness to closely cooperate with the UN in implementing the initiative for the preparation of a Global Security Strategy put forward by the President of Turkmenistan at the previous session of the General Assembly.
The Minister also reported on the development of a plan to implement the agreements reached during the aforementioned visit. In this context, the significance of the “International Year of Peace and Trust”, proclaimed by the UN for 2025 at the initiative of Turkmenistan, was emphasized for the entire international community. In this regard, information was provided about the preparation of a program of activities for the Year, and the importance of cooperation with the UN for its successful implementation was highlighted.
Regarding assistance to Afghanistan, the Minister noted that the launch of major transport and energy projects on the Turkmen-Afghan border on 11 September is another clear example of consistent support for the Afghan people. These projects will be implemented within the framework of international legal norms, Meredov emphasized.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the high appreciation of efforts in the field of eradicating statelessness, stressing that work in the humanitarian direction is one of the priority areas of Turkmenistan's policy and its cooperation with the UN.
